Yes, Richard, the children can attend our Sunday school free but paying a small contribution (£15/term) towards stationery like photocopying lessons, etc. We have PTA to run fund-raising to cover all the cost of running school. Teachers are paid £25/month for travelling expense. For myself, I have to drive from Winchester to Wimbledon about 63 miles. If I go by train, the amount wouldn't cover me for one trip.
There are about 70 students for our 7 classes. Today is the last day for this term (last term of the year), so the children have to do the exam. After one month break, the school will start the new year in March. Normally there will be about 20-30 new enrolled students of 5-6 years of age. Like you mentioned - it is probably a bit like the Thai teenagers here that have Chinese grandparents. It's hard to keep them entertained while learning so the beginning of the term they turned up 20 and gradually disappeared to 5-8 each class.
We are like any temple school (โรงเรียนวัด,รัฐบาล) so we can't afford any hi-tech equipment like computers. I can only download any interesting lessons from internet and prepare everything for the students.
We tried to improve our teaching by adapting some methods the teachers use in local English school here in UK to keep the students interested, not bored. However, we still have to repeat the same structure every week because there is no help from home. The parents don't like helping their children with homework (don't have to mention communicating with them in Thai).
We start teaching them to recognize some consonants and vowels and then mixing them to make simple words. The first and second year will be about all consonants and vowels. The third year, we will start teaching อักษร ๓ หมู่. The fourth and fifth year, we will teach more complicated structure which we are struggling because we are not quite confident ourself.
The children in advance class can read books in Thai (not a long story though).
That is quite information. Any suggestion to teach the children effectively would be very welcome.

Thanks for the reply Cherry. The reason I was asking was that I wanted enough information about your temple school before I approached the school administrators of Sriwittayapaknam School. They have now agreed to send you a set of books used by the kindergarten students at our school. You can then use these to photocopy handouts for your lessons. We will also send you some bilingual children's books from our online store for free. I hope these will be of use to you.
Also, would you be interested in setting up a penfriend project between your students and ours? This could be done in both English and Thai as our students need to practise using English. The only problem is that we close for the summer holidays when you open for a new term in March. But, we will be back in May. What do you think?
Please let me know the full address of the temple so that we can send you the books.

That is good news. It would be appreciated if your school can send us those books for our temple school to use for lessons. The address of the temple is Siriwan Darling (Class 2 teacher)

The penfriend project between your students and ours sounds very interesting. Once the new term starts in March, I'll encourage our students to have a go with it.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Now that you have done two posts (you are now a "member" and not a "newbie" you will see an extra forum on the front page called "Members Only". That is where we hide all the freebies.
(When you joined up, you should have recieved a letter in your personal messenger telling you this.)

I'd love to download the lesson but I see it is .exe
I am on Macintosh (yes there are a few of us left) so I'm not optimisitic about it working. Is it possible to provide something that works on Mac?
by the way, does anyone know how I can get the Thai fonts to appear on my Mac?
