I wonder why my niece will laugh at me when I said 'chet' & 'phet'. Is the tone wrong?

I think the 'chet' should be 'chiet' and and 'phet' should sound a little bit softer....'lidah' Malaysian esp with the south dialect, is a bit thick so you have to 'asah' a bit.You can ask eric......
