On the third night of my visit to Bangkok, me and my friends wanted to go down to a bar to listen to some music, chat with each other, observe the Thai crowd and basically have a good time (sanuk). So we called up our Tour Guide, Mark to ask for a good location with some nice bars or pubs with a nice view.
He recommend we go to Nana Entertainment Plaza. So we headed down and were shocked at what we saw. We were definitely not expecting something like this. Then we realised that when we asked Mark to recommend a place with nice view, he had mis-interpreted our meaning of the word "view".
So we promptly made our way to Hollywood Disco for the rest of the evening. Shocking indeed.

MakiyO,
I went to the WTC for the 2002 new year. I took the skytrain to Chidlom, and it took me 30 minutes to walk from Chidlom to the WTC because of all the people. I was also meeting a girl there that I secretly liked, and I tried so hard to give her directions to my location because we were both at WTC but we couldn't find each other. However, it was soooo crowded and noisy that we couldn't hear each other on our cell phones. So she sent me a text message saying "I go to Major." So I went up to Major, and when I saw her she was sitting on a bench with a pouty look on her face (so cute). So I grabbed her and lead her back down to the beer gardens outside where we watched the fire works. Anyways, on New Years, the Skytrain runs almost all night, however, it was just so packed. So we walked to the Siam station instead. By the time we got there, the crowd on the skytrain wasn't so bad.
By the way, where is Hollywood Disco? I've heard so many people mention it, but I've never been there.

Wow, what a cool site, many thanks to the ppl responsible for this
I spent 2 weeks in Bangkok, it was wonderful! I guess it was a fairly "musical" holiday. That pi-phaat music was really cool, and I loved that luuk thung stuff they show on telly in the middle of the night!
I have some nice pictures to share of a Cremation Ceremony I went to, for Khruu Prasit, one of the gurus in thai pi-phaat music, that passed away recently. Lots of tradional music, funky instruments and beautiful buildings!
Cremation Ceremony of Khruu Prasit
For me, the best thing about Thailand is the people. That exceptionally good-nature... I mean, I know there are good and bad people in any country, but for some reason, a good thai person is *exceptionally* good-natured...
Well, I'm grateful for it, I hope some of that "niceness" brushed off onto me while I was there and I took some of this niceness back to Australia with me

It is near the very large Robinson's Shopping Centre in the Ratchada Area. There's another great disco beside Hollywood called Dance Fever which is also very good. I wish I knew the exact address...so sorry.

Well on LearningThai I saw that there was Ko Kret on the "Places to Visit in Bangkok" section (or whatever it is called).
Well, since I lived just down Tivanon St. from Ko Kret, I can say I don't really recommend it for tourists. I mean, there just wasn't anything too special about it! Hmm if I think of any places that I actually WOULD recommend, I'll let you know

On my last night in Bangkok during my trip last Jan, the Thai friends brought me and my friends out for a night of party. We went to Chinatown to have a sumptuous seafood spread. Oyster omelette, fried spicy kalamari, chilli kang kong, a whole steamed fish with bean crumb, sharks fin shop, tom yam soup and bird's nest for dessert. Then we went to MBK for a little last minute shopping and bought some gifts for our Thai friends and then when the night was ripe, we went to Dance Fever.
Wow! Although it was super crowded, the management got us a table right in front of the stage. Maybe because my Thai friend was a member but I think it's more because she's drop dead gorgeous. It was so exciting amidst all the cheering, singing and dancing. I didn't understand any of the Thai songs sung live by the performers but I did understand the Thai style of sanuk.

Makiyo, I heard that the discos there are different from those in Singapore. Maybe you can elaborate, is it more fun or should i avoid it?

If you are refering to Dance Fever and Hollywood, it is vastly different. But there are many other pubs and discos in similar fashion to places like Madam Wong's, Dbl O, Zouk, Centro, etc...
However, Dance Fever and Hollywood are different because they have live shows. Much like Canto of the old. They have performers (singers and dancers) that take turns appearing on stage and performing the latest Thai/English songs. They also interact with the audience. I don't understand what they are saying but I reckon it must be something really funny cos everyone is cheering and laughing.
It was hellava time. You must try it out if you are there this June. Ask your Thai friends to bring you cos it will increase the fun factor manifold.

There was a club in Hua Hin like Dance Fever and Hollywood. Makiy0 is right, they are a blast! They even sing some of the more popular Western songs better than the origianl artists, IMHO. And even if you "mai kow jai" the Thai songs, the performance carries you along anyway! Sanook ma! And as an added bonus, there aren't as many farung as the more western disco techs. Not that I have anything against them, myself being one, but sometimes I think some foreigners mixed with alcohol and a "party" atmosphere forget they're still in another country. I get ambarassed when I with my Thai friends and they ask me if all farung act like that...
