New Forum for Malaysia and Singapore
We have had some requests to add forums for Singapore and Malaysia as they are not only in S.E. Asia but Malaysia is also a neighbour. In addition, Singapore has a lot of people interested in Thailand. So we thought, as we have a lot of members from these countries, they could help by promoting their own countries and answering questions from potential tourists.

This is a combined forum for the two countries with an option to splitting them later.

Re: New Forum for Malaysia and Singapore
Hi Richard,
I can blog/answer questions on certain categories of places of interest in Sg =) This good news of yours comes at the same time when I am thinking of dedicating my (soon-to-be set up) blog specifically to all the heritage, nature and local veggie food trails of Sg; will certainly do so in the luxury of time right after Oct 09 upon submitting my (unrelated) research paper and add the link to my TCB profile... =)

Re: New Forum for Malaysia and Singapore
Maybe you can help: I know two lady graduate students traveling to Singapore during their school break next month. Since they are on a tight budget, they are looking for a tourist class hotel (2 -or 3-star?) , secure and near transportation lines. Any recommendations?
Thanks!

Re: New Forum for Malaysia and Singapore
=) Hi Marie,
I do not have much personal experiences with accomodations, but when we are teenagers, my friends and I sometimes stay for a night over the eve of some major festival just for to chat about all the usual issues that matter to teenagers, share music and late night suppers etc. If it is me, I will say that the 2-star hotels or guesthouses along Bencoolen, Joo Chiat, Arab Street and Bugis St are great, for their old-world charms not so commonly found in Singapore. Actually, we have been to Hotel81 in Geylang one Xmas eve for the mere fact that it has a vibrant food nightlife (before I turned vegetarian haha!), and it's not sleazy at all (even gave us a big bag of party goodies!). Now Hotel81 is found in many central places, and there is one in Chinatown too. Most are close to bus stops but not to MRT stations, except the one in Chinatown which is about 5mins' walk from Outram Park MRT station.
Another hotel, which is more costly but luxurious, (about 4 star) that is within 5mins' walk from bus stops and 10mins' walk from Dhoby Gaut MRT station will be Hotel Rendezvous, which offers easy walk from the Peranakan Musuem, National Museum, Art Museum, National Archives, Philatelic Museum, Fort Canning Park, Mr Bean Cafe along Prinsep Street, Plaza Singapapura (shopping centre) etc. It is also possible to walk to Esplanade and Somerset (Orchard Road area) from there.
Hope the links below are useful =) Sorry that this is the very little I can advise
